About the role
Media Data Fellows are A-Goal Initiative’s eyes and ears across Nigeria. Working remotely from their own zone, each fellow tracks how issues covered by our VAW-P and GovTap projects are reported and discussed, then checks and records what they find to a consistent standard.
The evidence fellows gather feeds directly into the research, factsheets and public reporting that A-Goal publishes. It is careful, independent work for someone who knows their region well and takes accuracy seriously.
What you will do
- Monitor media coverage and public discussion in your zone on issues covered by the VAW-P and GovTap projects.
- Gather information and verify it before it is recorded.
- Document findings accurately, in the agreed format and on time.
- Apply research ethics in every task, including confidentiality and do-no-harm.
- Draw on your networks of journalists and civic actors to understand what is happening locally.
One fellow for each zone
We are recruiting six fellows, one for each geopolitical zone. Apply for the zone where you live and work, and where your networks are strongest.
Who we are looking for
- Experience in Communications, Journalism, Newsroom or freelance.
- Basic to moderate understanding of research methods, information-gathering and research ethics.
- Good knowledge of the media and civic environment within their geopolitical zone.
- Strong access to journalists, media organisations, or relevant civic groups and community networks within their zone.
- Ability to independently monitor and verify political, campaign and civic activities locally or through media and field networks.
- Good documentation, strong attention to detail, communication and data verification skills.
- Ability to work remotely, meet deadlines and submit accurate reports.
It helps if you have
- Previous experience in media monitoring, research, journalism, civic engagement or data collection.
